Animal Care Practical Skills Level 3 Full-time

During this one-year program at our Wigfield Farm campus, you’ll learn a lot about taking care of different types of animals. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to work with animals in the future.

You’ll get better at the skills and knowledge needed for a job in animal care.

You will study:

  • Keeping animals healthy and happy

  • Making sure the workplace is safe

  • Handling and moving animals safely

  • Planning and setting up animal living spaces

  • Taking care of young animals

  • Gaining work experience

How much does the course cost?

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

Course Content

  • Pass in a Level 2 Animal Care related qualification.

  • Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths.

You will complete a portfolio of practical and written evidence that shows achievement of all relevant learning outcomes. Assessment is pass/fail only.

All students on land-based programmes are required to wear standard uniform and also PPE for practical work in the form of steel toe capped boots and overalls.

Certificate

Students who achieve this qualification could progress in to employment or further study. The course does not carry any UCAS points.

Beyond College, there are many opportunities such as trainee veterinary nurse (further study required), pet shop supervisor, senior kennel worker, RSPCA.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which maybe added to your study programme, subject to approval from your chosen department.

If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
