We are proud to be a part of the South Yorkshire Institute of Technology (SYIoT)

Located across England, Institute of Technologies (IoTs) are a national network of experienced education providers and leading employers, working in partnership to deliver world-class technical education and training.

What is the SYIoT?

Backed by over £12 million in funding from the Department for Education, the SYIoT in South Yorkshire marks a significant milestone for the region, kite-marking high-quality, higher-level technical education and training provision. One of 21 IoTs nationally, the SYIoT is a major investment and recognition of the region’s higher education providers.

The education partners are DN Colleges Group, Sheffield Hallam University, Barnsley College, The University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre, The Sheffield College and RNN Group. With the pace of change and emerging and changing technologies, the investment ensures that education providers have access to facilities and equipment that can support students to prepare and develop to meet employer’s needs.

Whether you are a student looking to forge a new career, or an employer looking for a flexible way to upskill your workforce, this is the place to start.

Our curriculum is co-designed and delivered with employers, giving students of all ages and backgrounds real-world experience to stand out in the job market.

We offer a range of courses that can be studied flexibly around existing commitments. Specialising in Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs), professional training, degree level study and Higher Apprenticeships, the SYIoT offers courses, qualifications and bite-size programmes, giving individuals access to flexible Higher Education.

The SYIoT offers flexible and affordable qualifications to adults of all ages. In 2025 the costs of programmes may be supported by the new Lifelong Learning Entitlement as well as current funding streams. For employers, alongside funding support for apprenticeships, education partners can advise on any other funding available, including the Skills Bank.

From September 2025, the Barnsley College campus of the SYIoT will be based within our purpose-built Barnsley College University Centre on Church Street. It is set to be refurbished and reconfigured, and once open, it will offer higher level technical education to help close skills gaps in Construction, Digital, Engineering and Health industries.

It will be packed with emerging technologies, so keep checking back for further details.
