Courses for School Leavers (16-18 year olds)
Choosing your college might be one of the biggest decisions you've made so far. You might have an idea of what you want to do, or you might have no clue which career path is right for you.
If you're unsure about your options after Year 11, don’t worry, you can talk to the College’s Information, Advice and Guidance Team. Every secondary school in Barnsley – and many in Wakefield, Sheffield, and Rotherham – has a named advisor who works in College but supports students from those schools. We put you, the student, at the heart of everything we do. We offer all students excellent teaching, access to state-of-the-art campuses which are equipped with latest facilities. We also have strong relationships with employers in region who support our students to gain insight into real working environments, learning first-hand about the sector they want to progress higher-level qualifications in or secure a job in the future.

What options are available?
A Levels
A Levels are academic subject-based qualifications and take two-years to complete. You would normally study three subjects.
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships combines on-the-job learning with classroom theory-based lessons. You earn a wage and gain real industry experience.
T Levels
T Levels are a vocational qualification studied over two years. They combine classroom learning with an industry placement lasting 315 hours.
Vocational courses
A vocational course is a training programme which focuses more on practical work, rather than traditional academic exams.
English and Maths
English and Maths qualifications are a requirement for most jobs and it is important that you are able to demonstrate your ability in these areas. If you do not already have a grade 4 or above in GCSE English and Maths you will automatically undertake further study in these subjects as part of your study programme.
