Bricklayer Level 2 Apprenticeship

You will learn how to construct masonry cladding and cavity walling to form masonry structures. Skills in constructing solid walling with isolated and attached piers are also covered. Additionally, studying health, safety, and welfare in construction and related industries forms part of the curriculum. Other key areas include setting out masonry structures, understanding construction technology, and more.

Course Content

  • You will need to be at least 16 years of age

  • You will hold two GCSEs at grade 9/A*-2/E, plus GCSE Maths and English at grade 3/D or above

  • It is desirable that you hold GCSE English and Maths qaulifications at grade 4/C or above but this is not essential as Functional Skills is delivered as part of the apprenticeship programme

  • You will need to find an employer willing to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our Apprenticeship vacancies for the latest opportunities. Please be aware, individual employers will set their own entry requirements and selection criteria for their apprenticeship job role.

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed both in College and in your place of work.

You will be required to provide paper, writing materials, A4 ring binder file, extra wide dividers and clear plastic wallets.

Apprenticeship Standard

Upon completion you could progress onto the Level 3 Bricklaying Advanced Apprenticeship or apply for job roles including:

  • Bricklayer

  • Craft Mason

On completion of this apprenticeship, you will have satisfied the requirements to obtain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Card at the appropriate level. As a result of achieving the Apprenticeship, there will be an entitlement to join the Federation of Master Builders continuous professional development (CPD) scheme for individual tradespeople.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which maybe added to your study programme, subject to approval from your chosen department.

If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
