Early Years Educator Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship

Early Years Educators, nursery nurses, and childminders support children’s learning, development, health and safety from birth to age 5. They work in diverse settings such as nurseries, preschools, children'ss centres, reception classes and as childminders.

The apprenticeship includes completing a Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid or Emergency Paediatric First Aid to meet EYFS standards.

What does an Early Years Educator do?

  • Plans and supervises activities based on each child’s needs and interests

  • Supports numeracy and language development through games and play

  • Ensures each child feels safe and secure

  • Observes and tailors learning experiences for each child

  • Meets care needs like feeding, changing nappies and administering medicine

  • Collaborates with colleagues, parents, carers and professionals to meet each child’s needs

Course Content

  • You will need to be at least 16 years of age

  • Some settings require you to have a suitable Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care or Childcare and four GCSEs at grade C/4 plus GCSE English at grade 4 or above

  • Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking their End-point Assessment (EPA)

  • As your programme may involve working with children, you will be required to undertake a satisfactory Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check

  • You will need to find an employer willing to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our Apprenticeship vacancies for the latest opportunities. Please be aware, individual employers will set their own entry requirements and selection criteria for their apprenticeship job role.

You will be assessed using a portfolio of evidence, observations in the workplace and assignments. You will be assessed both in College and in your place of work.

You will be required to provide pens and paper or a computer.

Apprenticeship Standard

With additional experience, an Early Years Educator can become the Manager of an Early Years setting.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.

If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
