Course Overview
Graphic Design Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) Full-time
You've Learned the Fundamentals at Level 3. Now Develop into a Professional Designer.
The Graphic Design Higher National Certificate (HNC) is designed for ambitious creatives who want to refine their practice, build a professional portfolio and prepare for careers within the creative industries.
Whether you're progressing from a Level 3 qualification at Barnsley College or joining us from another college, this industry-recognised Pearson qualification provides the opportunity to develop as a confident, independent and professionally focused designer.
Graphic design is constantly evolving. Today's designers are expected to think creatively, communicate effectively and create engaging visual experiences across print, digital and emerging media. This course helps you develop the skills, knowledge and professional mindset needed to thrive in the modern creative industries.
You'll work in a creative studio environment, developing ideas, responding to briefs and building a professional portfolio in the same way as practising graphic designers. Through research, experimentation and project-based learning, you'll explore contemporary design practice while refining your own creative identity.
Beyond developing technical skills, you'll be encouraged to discover your own creative voice, define your design approach and build a portfolio that reflects your individual interests and ambitions.
Studying at Barnsley College University Centre gives you the opportunity to experience Higher Education within a dedicated creative community, with access to specialist facilities, industry-standard software and expert support from experienced design professionals.
By the end of the course, you'll have developed a strong body of work that demonstrates your creativity, technical ability and readiness for employment, freelance practice or further Higher Education study.
