Learning and Skills Teacher Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship

This apprenticeship is for individuals with prior vocational or subject qualifications who wish to train as educators. It equips you with skills to deliver effective education and training, focusing on planning, delivery, assessment, and teaching strategies. The apprenticeship includes a Level 2 Certificate in Safeguarding and a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, along with 20% off-the-job training.

The course covers:

  • Developing teaching, learning, and assessment in education and training

  • Teaching, learning, and assessment in education and training

  • Theories, principles, and models in education and training

  • Wider professional practice and development in education and training

  • Additional units agreed between the employer and apprentice

Course Content

  • You must not have a criminal background that would prevent you from working with young people or vulnerable adults.

  • Expertise in a vocational and/or specialist subject at a level above that of the students; ideally Level 3 or above in your area of specialism.

  • Minimum core of literacy, numeracy and ICT.

  • A teacher/trainer role.

  • You will need to find an employer willing to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our Apprenticeship vacancies for the latest opportunities. Please be aware, individual employers will set their own entry requirements and selection criteria for their apprenticeship job role.

  • Course work, professional discussion, Presentations, at least eight hours of teaching and learning observations - please note this is not an exhaustive list

  • Exams in English and mathematics if you do not already hold the required level (grade C/4 and above is required)

  • End-Point- Assessment

Pen, paper, USB stick, folder and access to a computer.

Apprenticeship Standard

Progression to a level 6 programme of study. Employment as a teacher or trainer.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which maybe added to your study programme, subject to approval from your chosen department.

If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
