Modern Methods of Construction Higher National Diploma (HND) - HTQ Full-time
In this HTQ course, you will learn the latest construction methods, practical and theoretical skills, and work with modern technology and software used in the industry. You will study construction design projects, sustainability, off-site manufacturing, modern construction methods, cost control, building information modelling, digital applications, alternative energy principles, and tender and procurement processes. This course is part of the South Yorkshire Institute of Technology (SYIoT).
The course content includes:
Construction design projects (set by Pearson and based on live working projects).
The construction environment, considering all environmental factors with a focus on sustainability aspects.
Principles of off-site manufacture
The potential of Modern methods of construction to transform the industry.
Impact on cost control and the environment and address the housing shortages.
Building information modelling (BIM).
Digital applications for BIM and construction information.
Principles of alternative energy.
Tender and procurement.

£6,995 per year.
Other funding information
As a Higher Education student living in England you may be eligible for the non-means tested Tuition Fee Loan from the Government and a Maintenance Loan.
Students with children or dependant adults may qualify for a Childcare Grant or Adult Dependants' Grant. Students can apply for these at the same time as applying for a Maintenance Loan.
Remember: Eligible students will not have to pay tuition fees in advance and can apply for the Maintenance Loan before they start the course.
We offer a service to any student who has a diagnosis of anything persistent or long-term which might interfere with how they study and manage their day-to-day academic engagement. The service is flexible and shaped around the needs of each individual; it might be consistent support or intermittent support.
You will require a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Modern Methods of Construction
GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above
Prior experience of working in the Construction industry would be beneficial

The Construction Management HND is assessed through coursework rather than traditional examinations. Assessment methods are designed to reflect current industry practice and help develop the skills required for management roles within the construction sector. Assessment methods may include:
Written assignments, reports and professional documentation
Individual and group projects
Presentations, professional discussions and project reviews
Research activities and case studies
Construction management plans and feasibility studies
Cost planning, procurement and tendering exercises
Technical drawings, project schedules and portfolio work
Your work will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction, with assessments focused on applying knowledge, understanding and practical skills to realistic construction management scenarios. This approach helps develop the leadership, organisational, commercial and technical competencies required for a successful career in the construction industry.

Higher National Diploma
Successful completion of the Construction Management HND can open up a wide range of progression opportunities in both employment and higher education. Learners may choose to:
Progress to the final year of a related bachelor's degree programme, subject to individual university entry requirements.
Develop your career in roles such as Assistant Site Manager, Site Manager, Project Co-ordinator, Construction Manager, Quantity Surveyor, Planning Technician, Estimator, Building Control Officer or Project Manager.
Advance into supervisory and management positions within the construction and built environment sector.
Pursue professional membership and further development opportunities with industry bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE).
