Performing Arts and Production Level 2 Full-time

Start Date / Duration

This course starts in September and runs for one year.

Entry requirements

  • Four GCSEs at grades 3 including GCSE English and Maths
  • An interest in theatre production
  • A successful audition

If you don’t currently meet these entry requirements, you may be able to study a Level 1 Foundation Learning course.

You will achieve

UAL Level 2 Award in Performing and Production Arts.

Course overview

If acting, singing, dancing or theatre production is your passion, then you need to start your career with our Performing Arts course. There are many career and progression opportunities in this exciting, dynamic and creative industry, whether that be performing on stage, TV or film to dancing or choreography, all of which we will prepare you for while studying with us.

Course content

The course is very practical and will help you to develop your confidence and performance skills on the stage. The course develops your voice, projection, movement, acting skills and musical theatre skills. You will participate in College performances which will take place in various locations. You will have the opportunity to participate in College performances and end-of-year showcases, helping you to develop as a performer. You will study a variety of units including:

  • Acting
  • Musical theatre
  • Performing
  • Dance
  • Technical skills

You will be assessed on your practical work and coursework.

You will need to have pens, paper and appropriate clothing for practical activities. If you play an instrument you may need to have access to this as well on occasions.

  • Employment: many previous students have been successful in gaining employment with the industry
  • Education: you may progress onto a Level 3 programme ; Level 3 Acting , Level 3 Dance or Level 3 Musical Theatre .  A Merit grade for the Diploma is required. Following the Extended Diploma course many of our students progress to university

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

19+ Students

Aged 19 or over and thinking about further education?

You may be eligible for free or reduced course fees . Please refer to our page ‘paying for your course.’

Barnsley College has a range of sports opportunities for all students to take part in, gain professional training and compete nationally and internationally. We also have a state-of-the-art fitness village, Honeywell Sports Village where students can make use of our fitness suite, spinning studio and classes for competitive rates. You don’t have to be studying sport to get involved in the Sports Academy.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.

Need a higher level Maths qualification? We offer a Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths).

This can be added to your study programme.
