Plastering Level 1 Diploma Full-time

In this course, you will acquire essential plastering skills for a career in construction. Topics include health and safety, preparing surfaces, fixing plasterboards, and applying various plaster coats. You will also gain practical experience in fibrous plastering on historic buildings. The course includes seven units, each with an assessment. Additionally, you will learn employability skills like teamwork, communication, CV writing, and self-management.

How much does the course cost?

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

Course Content

You must be 16-18 year olds. You must hold GCSE English and Maths. One of these qualifications must be a minimum Grade 1 and the other must be a minimum Grade 2.

You will be assessed on each of the seven units within the qualification on the classroom theory knowledge you have developed. These include the principles of construction and health and safety, additional to the plastering knowledge units below. You will also be assessed on the practical skills you have developed on five practical skills tests for preparing background surfaces, fixing plasterboard and applying different backing and finishing plasters to different surfaces. You will not be assessed until you have successfully completed the required training leading up to an assessment.

Basic stationery for the classroom activities. There are five points of Personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the workshop at all times. Each student is expected to provide their own safety boots and the department will provide the other four pieces: Hi-viz vest Hard hat Eye safety Gloves

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which maybe added to your study programme, subject to approval from your chosen department.

If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
