Project Search
Project Search is a transition to work programme for people with disabilities. It's for 18-24 year olds in their last year of education.
DFN works with the NHS to provide working opportuntires in hospital roles likes volunteering, IT, stores and more.
Barnsley College partners with Barnsley Hospital to bring Project Search to its students.
Expectations onsite
On the DFN Project Search Supported Internship, you will be treated as an NHS employee and will be expected to always behave in a professional manner. There are high expectations of all interns, particularly around attendance, timekeeping, commitment, and maturity.
You need to show a willingness to learn and develop, both in the classroom and on placement.
You will be required to wear an NHS uniform onsite (this will be provided, except for safety boots). Clothes sizes will be taken from you at interview.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required in certain areas (provided where necessary).
Phone use will be limited to break and lunchtime. Lunchtime will be decided by the department and is usually 30 minutes.
You will need to look clean, professional and have a good standard of personal hygiene.
As the DFN Project Search Supported Internship, is a term time only programme, holidays will not be authorised during term-time.

How much does the course cost?
Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

Course Content
You must be aged between 18-24 years old and:
Have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
Have 'High Needs' funding for your support agreed by your local authority
Attend an 'interview' with a staff member
Attend taster/transition sessions in the department to help you settle in before you start
Progression possibilities are;

Supported living/independent living
Community participation
Day activities
Volunteering
Personal budget
Supported employment/paid work

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.
If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.
If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
