Sheffield Hallam University transforms lives. Its aim is to shape students’ futures, preparing them for whatever they choose to do, and creating knowledge that provides practical solutions to real world challenges.

Founded in 1843 as the Sheffield School of Design, Sheffield Hallam has exercised a powerful impact on the city, region, nation and world. Today we are one of the UK’s largest and most diverse universities: a community of around 32,000 students, 4,200 staff and 330,000 alumni around the world.

SHU offers 19,000 student placements every year and has invested £100 million in new facilities over the last five years. (Data correct as of April 2024)

The University of Hull was founded in 1927 – originally as University College Hull. The foundation stone was laid the following year by the Duke of York and the University opened for business with 39 students and 14 ‘one-person’ departments. The University now has more than 16,000 students and around 2,500 employees, including more than 1,000 academic staff. Hull’s Royal Charter says the University’s mission is to “…advance education, scholarship, knowledge and understanding by teaching and research, for the benefit of individuals and society at large”.

The University of Hull is committed to providing our students with top-class facilities and an ideal environment in which to live and learn.
