Former Business Administration Apprentice Madelaine Lingard has been shortlisted for an accolade at the South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards 2023.

The awards recognise and reward the individuals and organisations involved in apprenticeships across the region, and Madelaine, who has just completed her Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship, will attend the final on Thursday 18 May.

“Doing this apprenticeship is one of the best things I have ever done.”

Madelaine completed her apprenticeship at Barnsley Hospital and gained distinctions in all three of the components of her course.

She described the course as a ‘great way to incorporate working full time whilst learning’.

Madelaine said: “It feels great. I really wasn’t expecting to be nominated for an award, never mind being chosen as a finalist. I really am speechless.

“I’m proud of myself. I have had a really difficult time over the past year and there were times that I didn’t think I would complete the course. With support from my colleagues and Julie Drury, my apprenticeship trainer at College, I was able to come out on top and secure a permanent job at Barnsley Hospital doing something I love, so I’m proud of myself for doing that.

“My advice would be don’t give up and ask for help if needed. There may be times when it all feels a lot, especially when you are also in a full-time job, but just keep going and ask for help if you need it. Doing this apprenticeship is one of the best things I have ever done.”

Julie Drury, Madelaine’s Apprenticeship Trainer at College, added: “Despite having to take a break in learning due to personal circumstances which would have broken most people, Madelaine came back into learning with a determination to succeed and progress.

“Not only has Madelaine achieved a distinction grade in her apprenticeship, she has also gained employment in a role which involves supporting many others to better themselves and progress to future employment.

“Madelaine is totally selfless, always thinking of others and putting them before her own wants and needs. Meetings with Madelaine have included laughter as well as tears and it has been a pleasure to see her progress and grow into the fantastic person that she is.”
