Parents and carers of Year 11 secondary school students will have the opportunity to find out more about the courses we have available at our College and Sixth Form College at a Parent Information Evening on Tuesday 27 September, 5.00pm to 7.00pm.

Making decisions on what to do after school can be a daunting task for a Year 11 pupil and the aim of the event is to provide parents and carers with information on what we have available so they can support their child in making this important decision.

Rated outstanding by Ofsted, we offer a variety of courses including full and part-time vocational courses, A Levels, T Levels (Technical qualifications), apprenticeships and university-level courses in a wide range of subjects.

We offer a range of vocational courses in subject areas from Business to Bricklaying; Hairdressing to Healthcare; and Catering and Hospitality to Computing and Digital Media.

Barnsley Sixth Form College also has a variety of A Level courses available including Biology, Business, Psychology and Sociology.

The Sixth Form College has an excellent reputation for success; in 2022 the overall pass rate was 99% with a 100% pass rate in 20 subjects with many students progressing onto further study at some of the country’s top universities including Bristol, Durham, Loughborough, Newcastle, Sheffield and Warwick.

Attendees will have the opportunity to chat to tutors and attend presentations on vocational courses, apprenticeships and T Levels, the new technical qualifications. In addition, parents will be able to hear how they can support their child whilst they are studying with us so they can enable them to transition from school to College and then progress onto Higher Education or employment.

Liz Leek, Deputy Principal for Culture, Place and Communities, said: “Our Parent Information Evening is a great opportunity for Year 11 parents and carers to come and see exactly what we have on offer.

“The presentations will be packed with information about our courses and College life, and you will be able to speak to our friendly staff and ask questions in a more relaxed environment at our information stands.

“Come along and see what opportunities our Outstanding College can offer your child.”

The event is aimed specifically at parents and carers of Year 11 school children. There will be a further opportunity for potential students to visit the College with their parents at our forthcoming Open Day on Wednesday 19 October 2022, for more information: www.barnsley.ac.uk/event/open-day-5/
