Another great opportunity has arisen from our partnerships with three local major engineering firms.

Students will have the opportunity to attend weekly workshops at Masonite, Ardagh Group and AmcoGiffen, allowing them to glean the skills they will need in the industry and as well as the chance to impress their potential future employers.

“Opportunities like this allow students to not only gain that crucial industry experience valued by employers, but offer them the chance to realise their own career ambitions and choose the right path for them.”

The firms’ academies with us are being relaunched with the new sessions, in a bid to encourage students to take up these valuable new industry experience opportunities in 2024.

Graham Sherwin, Head of Engineering at the College, said: “I’m very proud to have facilitated this new initiative with our Engineering academies. Opportunities like these are unlike any I’ve seen at other colleges so far and these students will truly have access to learn from some of the best in business.

“Here in the Engineering department we offer many great learning experiences outside of the classroom, but this new partnership means we can offer true industry insight on a regular basis to ensure our students are ready to become top-line industry professionals themselves when they leave us.”

Representatives from the Masonite, Ardagh Group and AmcoGiffen academies added: “These new workshops are extremely exciting for both us and the students – we are looking forward to sharing more of our skills and knowledge in local engineering excellence through our academies with the college.

“These students are the engineers of tomorrow, and we hope as many as possible take us up on our offer to see how things are done in industry. Opportunities like this allow them to not only gain that crucial industry experience valued by employers, but offer them the chance to realise their own career ambitions and choose the right path for them.”
