ESOL: English for Speakers of Other Languages (Speaking and Listening) for Adults Part-time

Please apply to register for the course and we will provide a suitable course and start date. All courses are 4.5 hours per week (2 classes per week). There will be independent study as well.

Course overview

This course is for people with a good level of English who want to find jobs where they need a certain level in English, or who would like to gain qualifications in other subjects. We have highly qualified experts ready to help you! You will learn how to make and understand lots of different types of sentences and use them to talk about lots of different subjects.

Course content

Upon enrolment you will have the opportunity to build this course to suit your own needs. There are a variety of ESOL related courses you can join depending on the time of year. Examples are

  • Speaking and Listening
  • Writing
  • Reading
  • Entry Level 1 in Personal and Social Skills

You will cover the following topics;

  • Food and Healthy Eating
  • Friends and Family
  • Community
  • Sport and Leisure
  • Employment Opportunities
  • Education, Training and Goals
  • Caring for the Environment

 

Speaking and listening exams take place in April. If needed, you can try again in June.

Please bring a pen.

You can move on to a higher level ESOL course or GCSE English (or Functional Skills English if you aren’t ready for the GCSE just yet). You can also study any other subject at College if you meet the entry criteria. You will have enough English to feel confident in job interviews and to work in jobs which require a good level of English.

 

How much does the course cost?

If you aren’t eligible for funding, prices are as follows; Reading course price – £150; Writing course price – £225; Speaking and Listening course price- £300; Personal and Social Skills course price- £150; Preparation for Employment course price – £150; Asylum seekers, people on Universal Credit, and people working part time or earning less than £23,400 per year do not pay.

Extra information

Part-time courses are only available for learners who are 19 years old and above. You may not have to pay for this course if you are employed but earn below £23,400 a year, or if you are unemployed and receive Job Seekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit. You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility which will be checked at enrolment.

This course is funded by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and/or West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). You must be living in the South or West Yorkshire regions to qualify for funding.
