You will be assessed through a combination of synoptic assignment and externally assessed exam.
The course starts in September 2023. Due the course having already started, we advise only those who are looking to start immediately to apply. Applicants will be invited in for an interview and possible enrolment at the earliest opportunity. This course takes 18 months to complete. It is studied over two evenings a week with lessons typically running from 5.30pm – 8.30pm. The lessons will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
This course will require a reasonable level of Maths and English as you will need to complete scientific and mathematical formulas aligned to Electrical Installation theory. This will be discussed further on application. A maths assessment may be needed before a place on the course is secured.
City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures)
This Level 2 qualification is designed for new entrants to the industry, providing you with the basic skills and experience you need to prepare you to work in the electrical industry. Please note: this course does not make you a fully qualified Electrician.
This qualification is also known as the C& G 2365 and will become the 8202 from September 2023.
This City and Guilds qualification will cover the following mandatory units.
Unit 201 Health & Safety and Industry Practices
Unit 202 Electrical Science
Unit 203 Electrical Installation
Unit 204 Electrical Technology

Upon successful completion, this qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to further progress your learning within the electrical industry, such as the Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation or an Electrotechnical Apprenticeship.
The course fee is £1286 . There may be help for those on low wages or receiving benefits. For those aged between 19-23 who do not hold a Level 2, there may also be exemptions which apply.

You may not have to pay for this course if you are employed but earn below £21,255 a year, or if you receive Job Seekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit. If you are unemployed, actively seeking employment and receive Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, Income Support or WFTC then you may also receive funding for this course. You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility which will be checked at enrolment.
This course is funded by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and/or West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). You must be living in the South or West Yorkshire regions to qualify for funding.
