You will be assessed by your tutor and your work placement supervisor and centre assessor using a range of methods. This will include direct observation in placement, oral questioning, portfolio of evidence and written assignments or tasks.
This course starts in September and runs for one year.
You need to be aged 16 or above. You will also need to hold four GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including Maths and English.
Level 2 Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings Certificate.
This qualification is perfect for you if you want to understand more about the role of the childcare practitioner in both an early years setting and a primary school.
This qualification will provide you with an opportunity to develop a well-rounded understanding of the learning and development of children aged 0 – 11 years and 11 months, supporting progression to further education or the workplace.
As part of this course, you will take part in a placement of at least 120 hours (four weeks) throughout the year. This placement will enable you to refine your teamwork skills, independence, confidence and improve your chances of gaining employment after College. You will be assessed by the supervisor and centre assessor at the early years and primary school settings.

You will need to provide writing materials and stationery, a folder and a USB stick. Having access to a computer (computers can be accessed in College) would also be useful but it is not essential.
You will also need a current enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate and willingness to travel to and from your placement.
You will also receive a pack when you enrol which includes two polo shirts for your placement and your DBS if needed. This pack costs £66.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.
If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.
