The course will start on 10 September 2024. Classes run on a Tuesday between 9.30am and 4.30pm. The course runs for 35 weeks, term time only.

Entry requirements

  • AAT (Level 3)  Diploma in Accounting.
  • Part-time courses are only available for learners who are 19 or older.

Course overview

The AAT Diploma in Professional Accounting qualification gives you the relevant and practical skills to do a wide range of accounting and finance jobs.

This qualification covers complex accounting and finance topics and tasks leading to students becoming confident with a wide range of financial management skills and applications. Students will gain competencies in drafting financial statements for limited companies, recommending accounting systems strategies and constructing and presenting complex management accounting reports.

 

Course content

Applied Management Accounting: involves understanding the budgetary process, identifying and reporting on areas of success and concern to stakeholders and critically evaluating organisational performance.

Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements: involves drafting financial statements of single limited companies and consolidated statements for groups of limited companies. Students will learn about international accounting standards and apply them when drafting financial statements.

Internal Accounting Systems and Controls: involves considering the role and responsibilities of the accounting function including the needs of key stakeholders who use financial statements to make decisions. Students will apply several analytical methods to evaluate the implications of any changes to operating procedures.

You will also study two of the following specialisms:

  • Business Tax
  • Personal Tax
  • Audit and Assurance
  • Credit and Debt Management
  • Cash and Financial Management

Following the successful completion of this qualification  you will be invited to a formal graduation ceremony held in October/November. With relevant experience approved by AAT you could also use the designator letters MAAT.

You will be assessed by computer based examinations, following each core unit, throughout the course and by a final synoptic assessment that will assess knowledge and understanding from across the qualification.

You will need to provide your own writing materials, books and calculator.

Following graduation from the Professional Diploma in Accounting (Level 4) you may choose to enter industry, self-employment or further study. Some universities and professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) offer exemptions to those that are AAT qualified.

How much does the course cost?

Course fees: £2,500 full fee payable. This cost includes the price of one exam sitting per module. Resit fees are an additional cost  per exam. You will also need to register with AAT. The registration fee will be payable directly to AAT and this will give you access to study support resources for the lifetime of the qualification.
