Beauty Therapist Level 2 Apprenticeship

In Brief

Start Date / Duration

You can start an Apprenticeship at any time. This programme will take a minimum of 15 months to complete.

Entry requirements

  •  Three GCSEs at grade 3/D or above including English at grade 3 or above
  • Learners will need to be at least 16 years of age
  • You will need to find an employer to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our Apprenticeship vacancies.

Course overview

As a Beauty Therapy apprentice, you’ll assist senior therapists and learn a range of skills and techniques in the Beauty Therapy industry.

Course content

You will study all the mandatory units listed below

You will also study:

  • Employment, Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Booklet
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Mandatory Units

  • Promote additional services or products to clients
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
  • Fulfill salon reception duties
  • Health and safety
  • Provide facial skin care treatments
  • Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and lashes
  • Provide waxing treatments
  • Provide manicure treatments
  • Provide pedicure treatments
  • Provide make-up services

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed both in college and in your place of work.

You will need to purchase a Beauty kit. Further information will be provided at induction.

You will study within the workplace and will have to attend classes one day per week at Barnsley College’s Old Mill Lane Campus, Church Street, Barnsley, S70 2YW.

Upon completion you could progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy or apply for job roles including:

  • Junior Make-up Artist
  • Beauty Consultant

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

Barnsley College has a range of sports opportunities for all students to take part in, gain professional training and compete nationally and internationally. We also have a state-of-the-art fitness village, Honeywell Sports Village where students can make use of our fitness suite, spinning studio and classes for competitive rates. You don’t have to be studying sport to get involved in the Sports Academy.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.

If you’re aged 19 or above and don’t hold a a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
