Start Date

This course starts on Monday 4 November 2024 and is studied over eight months. You will attend College one afternoon per week, Mondays 1.00pm - 5.00pm.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above or an equivalent qualification at Level 2 or above
  • Good information and communications (ICT) skills
  • You will need to undertake an interview with the Course Leader
  • You will be required to complete a satisfactory enhanced DBS check
  • You will be required to log 30 hours of teaching throughout the year.
  • A placement within an education provider or to be employed for the duration of the course

Course overview

This course helps you develop the required skills, knowledge and professional values to start your teaching journey. You will have the option to work in Further Education colleges, sixth form colleges, adult and community learning, independent training providers and prison education. With a large proportion of your time spent on placement, you’ll gain the real-world experience that you need to prepare you for a fulfilling career in education.

Course content

You are expected to complete six modules across the programme and be observed teaching on three occasions as well as completing a 30 hour teaching log.

You will complete the following modules as part of the programme:

  • Roles and Responsibilities in Education and Training
  • Planning in Education and Training
  • Delivering Education and Training
  • Using Resources in Education and Training
  • Assessing Learners in Education and Training
  • Inclusive Practice in Education and Training

Your assessment will be a combination of assignments, practical teaching experience, observation records and reflective practice. You will need to demonstrate that you have developed the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to be a successful teacher.

You will need to provide a pen, paper, notepad or electronic device.

Following on from this course, there is opportunity for natural progression to further Higher Education courses are an opportunity such as Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher apprenticeship, or where appropriate, the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education.

How much does the course cost?

The course costs £1,499. You can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of this course.
