Assessment methods for this apprenticeship include practical assessments, coursework and a knowledge test.
You will be able to join this course at any time throughout the year. This is an 18-month apprenticeship.
You will be required to have successfully achieved qualifications at Level 1 or equivalent in English and Maths, and also to have achieved Level 2 in both subjects within the period of apprenticeship if you have not already achieved them.
There is no official qualification attached to this course. Apprentices will have to reach the required standard in at least one welding process to the test specification selected.
This course reflects employers requirements for the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected from someone to be considered a fully competent General Welder using at least one arc process. You will meet these requirements at the end of this course.
You will study health and safety and practical tasks in the workshop as part of your course.

You can progress onto our Level 3 Plate Welder Apprenticeship on successful completion of this course.
There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.
If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.
Need a higher level Maths qualification? We offer a Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths).
