Esports Level 2 Full-time

Start Date / Duration

This course commences in September 2024 and will be completed in one year.

Entry requirements

  • A keen interest and willingness to be involved within the Esports industry.
  • Two GCSEs at grade 4 or above plus English at grade 3 and Maths at grade 4 or above.
  • You will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check along with initial assessments in English and Maths.

If you don’t currently meet these entry requirements, you may be able to study a Level 1 Foundation Learning course.

You will achieve

  • Award in Esports Industry Knowledge.
  • Functional Skills Maths and English/GCSE Maths and English.
  • The opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Esports in Year 2 and Year 3 (equivalent to three A levels – allowing progression to University).

 

Course overview

Esports (electronic sports) is competitive video gaming. Tournaments usually involve amateur or professional gamers competing against one another. We can prepare you for a career in Esports.

This one-year full-time course provides an in-depth study of the sector, supporting progression to Level 3 and employment in key areas of the industry such as: Coaching, Health and Fitness in the Esports industry, Enterprise and Creativity, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Esports Events, Practical Gaming, Gaming Citizenship, Personal and Professional Development, along with an understanding and appreciation of the positive benefits of Esports.

These include the development of teamwork, communication, leadership skills, confidence building, decision-making, reaction times, reading comprehension skills, cyber skills, dexterity and concentration.

We are excited to be able to offer Scholarships for students in 2022 who meet the Esports Performance eligibility criteria, speak to a Tutor for further details.

We have excellent facilities that are tailored to the development of Esport, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship including a dedicated Esports Arena and a state-of-the-art classroom environment that provides a unique experience for you to get a feel for business expectations within the industry. There is also the opportunity to be involved in our Esports Academy which competes in the British Esports Association Championships.

Esports and the RAF

Assessment will occur continually throughout the programme. You will have unit assignments to complete and will be assessed on your practical ability and application of theory. You will have time-constrained assessments, written assignments, oral presentations, professional discussions and group work. Each individual unit and the full award are graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.

During practical sessions, kit will consist of an Esports Programme t-shirt along with formal wear appropriate to the Esports business industry. Non-regulation clothing and footwear is not permitted. Students will also require ring-binders, writing materials, paper, stationery, core textbooks and an external storage device.

On completion of this programme, you could apply for our Level 3 courses within the Esport, Sport, Business and Leisure industries. Alternatively, students will have gained a range of skills throughout the programme that are recognised by employers and may wish to pursue immediate careers with employers or apprenticeship providers.

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.

Need a higher level Maths qualification? We offer a Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths).

This can be added to your study programme.
