Catering students heat up the Frozen Food Awards

Group shot of Frozen Food Comp 2024

Our Level 2 and 3 Catering students took part in the annual British Frozen Food Federation Awards 2024

The first stage of the two-day competition was held in the training kitchens at Barnsley College’s Old Mill Lane campus. Students cooked products from a range of suppliers and supermarkets, including Aldi, Sainsburys and Marks and Spencer, they then served them to the team of judges who chose the winners within a strict time frame.

Level 3 Professional Cookery student, Taylor Constable, said: “I’ve enjoyed this experience and I was pleased I was given the opportunity to be involved.

“I’ve been able to learn how to cook new dishes that I would never have cooked before, for example, BBQ flavoured prawns that I cooked under the grill. There was also a meat free meatball dish that I had to pan fry.

“I’ve met with the judges who have given me good advice for the future; it’s been a great experience.”

Rupert Ashby, Chief Executive of the British Frozen Food Federation, added: “Once again the students at Barnsley College have done us proud and helped make the awards a huge success”.

The Award ceremony will be held in London at the Royal Lancaster Hotel on Thursday 20 June where the winners will be announced.

Good luck to everyone involved in the competition!
