Level 3 Education and Early Years T Level.

Course overview

T Levels are courses for 16 to 18 year olds that are studied at the same level as doing A Levels. They are for young people who prefer a more technical education when they come to College, rather than following a purely academic pathway, or a work-based apprenticeship.

T Levels provide a mixture of:

  • Technical knowledge and practical skills specific to the student’s chosen industry or occupation.
  • An industry placement of at least 45 days in their chosen industry or occupation. Watch this short Government video to hear why students find completing industry placements so beneficial.
  • Relevant Maths, English and digital skills.
  • Common workplace skills.

Students who achieve a T Level will get a nationally recognised certificate which employers will use as evidence in their recruitment.

T Levels will offer students a mixture of classroom or workshop-based learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience.

Please visit our T Level page for more information.

This course is ideal for you if you wish to pursue a career in the Childcare industry. The purpose of the T Level (Technical qualification), is to ensure you have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into skilled employment, higher-level technical training or a university programme within the education sector.

Studying the Education and Childcare T Level will enable you to develop core skills and knowledge such as working with others, observation and child development whilst taking part in an industry placement of at least 45 days and improving on your Maths, English and digital skills.

As part of this course you will study a variety of topics including:

  • Wider context of the sector
  • Supporting education
  • Safeguarding and wellbeing
  • Health and safety
  • Behaviour
  • Observation and assessment
  • Equality and diversity
  • Special Educational Needs and disabilities
  • English as an additional language
  • Parents, families and carers
  • Reflective practice

At your interview, you will be asked about any work or voluntary experience you have within the Childcare and what kind of placement you would like.

• Paper A written examination
• Paper B written examination
• Employer set project

In order to achieve a grade for Core Components, students must have results for both sub-components (the core written (examinations) and the employer set project).
The combined results for these sub-components will be aggregated to form the overall grade A*-E and U.

Occupational Specialism Component:
• Synoptic Assignments

You are also required to successfully achieve a Distinction/Merit/Pass grade in one of the Occupational Specialism Components.

• Current DBS enhanced disclosure certificate. You require a DBS certificate before starting the course. You will pay for this within your Childcare package, which will be arranged at enrolment.
• Text books recommended by your tutor.
• Willingness to travel to your placements (this may on occasion involve two bus journeys).
