Course overview

Retro fitting is the addition of new technology around upgrading building’s to make them more energy efficient, developing a building’s thermal capacity to resist the passage of heat and combat the use of fossil fuels to heat it. A course suitable for those who currently work in the construction industry or if you are looking to develop your skills and knowledge around retrofitting, on successful completion you will gain a recognised qualification.

In this theory-based course you will develop your knowledge into enable you to understand the basic principles of domestic retrofit. You will be able to interpret retrofit information specific to the work activities and resources, whilst identifying the materials required in domestic retrofit. You will understand the basic principles for domestic retrofit installations and know how to carry out basic domestic retrofit installations.

Course content

You will study different units to develop:

  • The knowledge to identify the main types of documents used in domestic retrofit, typical organisational structures and different types of information and how it is used.
  • The knowledge to identify the current legislation applicable to domestic retrofit, how to respond to emergencies and typical reporting procedures.
  • The materials required for work activities in domestic retrofit.
  • The basic principles for domestic retrofit installations.

Assessment of this unit will be through the completion of a mandatory knowledge assessment (multi-choice questions)

You will need to bring basic stationery items for the theory sessions. All other equipment is provided.

This course costs £195.  Funding may be available.

  • You will have to pay the full fee for this course

If you are unemployed, actively seeking employment and receive Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, Income Support or WFTC then you may also receive funding for this course. You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility which will be checked at enrolment.
