  • Completion of the four week introductory course

Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants

Course overview

This level is ideal if you want to begin working in the dog grooming industry and want to learn the skills you need to work under supervision in a dog grooming salon.

 

Course content

Based at our Wigfield Farm campus this qualification is ideal if you wish to enter the dog grooming industry for personal or professional reasons. You will learn dog grooming techniques that include preparation, bathing, drying and basic grooming techniques.

Course Content

The areas of study are:

  • Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing
  • Bathe and clean dogs
  • Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals
  • Control and restrain animals
  • Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling
  • Basic trimming of a dog’s coat
  • Move animals between locations
  • Maintain the cleanliness and bio security of the animal care working environment

Please note: It would be beneficial to have access to different varieties of dogs as you will get trained on the different hair types.

 

An online multiple choice assessment set by the awarding body

You will complete a portfolio of practical and written evidence that shows achievement of all relevant learning outcomes.

Aprons will be provided in the dog grooming room, non-slip full covered shoes must be worn for all practical sessions.

Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming

Level 2 or 3 Technical Certificate/Diploma in Animal Care.

This qualification could help you get a job as a:

  • Dog groomer
  • Assistant dog groomer
  • Kennel worker

How much does the course cost?

Course fees: £362. Funding may be available depending on your circumstances if you live within the South Yorkshire or West Yorkshire region. You must also complete an introductory course which costs £85. No funding is available for the introduction, which means all students must pay this.
