This is a 15 week course starting on either Monday 7 October 2019 or Wednesday 9 October 2019. You can choose between Monday (5.15pm-8.15pm) or Wednesday (9.30am-12.30pm).

Entry requirements

Basic literacy and IT skills will be required to complete this qualification.

Course overview

This level is ideal if you want to begin working in the dog grooming industry and want to learn the skills you need to work under supervision in a dog grooming salon.

This popular course will be on a “first come first served” basis and applicants will be invited in by date order of application. Upon your application you will receive an email of acknowledgement with a request of which day you prefer. Previous applicants who were unsucessful during the last intake will need to apply again.

Course content

Based at our Wigfield Farm campus this qualification is ideal if you wish to enter the dog grooming industry for personal or professional reasons. You will learn dog grooming techniques that include preparation, bathing, drying and basic grooming techniques.

Course Content

The areas of study are:

  • Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing
  • Bathe and clean dogs
  • Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals
  • Control and restrain animals
  • Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling
  • Basic trimming of a dog’s coat
  • Move animals between locations
  • Maintain the cleanliness and bio security of the animal care working environment

 

 

How will I be assessed?

An online multiple choice assessment set by the awarding body

You will complete a portfolio of practical and written evidence that shows achievement of all relevant learning outcomes.

What equipment will I need?

Aprons will be provided in the dog grooming room, non-slip full covered shoes must be worn for all practical sessions.
