Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, and you are not expected to have any prior knowledge or experience, however, an interest in the subject area is advisable.

You will achieve a Level 1 IMI Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness.

Course overview

This short qualification is for those who have an interest in gaining the knowledge to work safely within the automotive retail industry with electric and hybrid vehicles.

It is designed to provide you with an introduction to the knowledge of safe working practices, the dangers surrounding this work, and the precautions required to avoid potential injury when working with electric or hybrid vehicles.

This award offers an introduction to this specialised industry sector, and compliments other industry qualifications and experience you may have. This qualification will enable you to work safely within your job role.

Course content

The course covers the following subjects:

  • The types of electric and hybrid vehicles available
  • Hazards associated with motor vehicle high-energy electrical systems

Working safely around electric and hybrid vehicles (including charging)

This qualification will be assessed through IMI criteria around one mandatory unit with an online test and observation of practical competence.

You will need:

  • Overalls and steel toe cap safety footwear
  • Pen and pencils
  • Scientific calculator
  • Notebook

This qualification will help to support your progression on to qualifications which further develop your knowledge of either working safely in emergency or recovery situations, or within a technical role carrying out routine servicing and maintenance activities on electric or hybrid vehicles.

You could go on to study the Level 2 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Hazard Management for Emergency and Recovery Personnel Award, and/or the Level 2 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities Award.

How much does the course cost?

This course will cost £150. Full fee payable.
