This course commences in September 2024 and runs for one year. A timetable showing days and times of classes will be assigned at the start of the programme.

Entry requirements

  • Two GCSEs grade 3 plus English at grade 4 or above or Level 1 in Beauty Therapy

Course overview

Do you like make-up? Would you like to gain the knowledge and skills required to work in the make-up industry? This study programme is designed for you if you have little or no experience but want to start a career in this dynamic, competitive and rewarding industry.

Makeup artists have the freedom to be as creative as they want. You can choose what you want to specialise in. Weddings and special occasions, photo shoots, TV and movie productions, the options are endless. Each model is a fresh new canvas that allows you to express yourself as an artist.

 

Course content

This course will give you training for a career in the cosmetic or make-up industry.

  • Principles of working in the make-up industry
  • Anatomy and physiology of make-up artists
  • Researching, developing and showcasing designs
  • The art of applying make-up
  • Hair artistry
  • Creative make-up artistry

There will be continuous assessment of practical work, both on and off the job, oral questioning relating to practical work and written questions. You will be required to maintain and submit a portfolio of evidence of work produced. Assessments are based on the ability to do the job.

You will be required to purchase a uniform and make-up kit. All kits are compulsory to attend the course and achieve the qualification. Further information will be provided at interview.

Progress on to the Level 3 Make-up Artistry or employment in the make-up industry.

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

Barnsley College has a range of sports opportunities for all students to take part in, gain professional training and compete nationally and internationally. We also have a state-of-the-art fitness village, Honeywell Sports Village where students can make use of our fitness suite, spinning studio and classes for competitive rates. You don’t have to be studying sport to get involved in the Sports Academy.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.

Need a higher level Maths qualification? We offer a Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths).
