  • Four GCSEs at grade 3/D or above including GCSE English and maths
  • You will need to have a basic standard of musicianship

Course overview

The Level 2 Award and Diploma in Music, Performance and Production endeavours to provide you with an introduction to music, performing and production, encouraging re-engagement with education and the skills and understanding to progress to further education or employment within the creative industries.

Course content

This is a very practical course that provides many opportunities for instrumental development, playing in bands, rehearsing and gigging. This course will help you to understand music and music theory plus will teach you skills in:

  • Rehearsal techniques for musicians
  • Planning and creating a music product
  • Singing
  • Working as a musical ensemble
  • Solo musical performance
  • Exploring the music profession

 

 

 

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed on your practical work and coursework.

What equipment will I need?

Your own instrument is essential and the ability to play it to a reasonable level.

What can I do next?

  • Employment: this course can form the foundations for future study and work in this industry
  • Education: You could progress onto an Extended Diploma course at Barnsley College in an area of Music such as Music Performance or Music Production. To do so you need to achieve a Merit grade for your Diploma. To progress onto the Extended Diploma in Music Technology you need to gain GCSE Maths at grade C or above and we can offer this alongside the Diploma course. Many students then continue to university

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

19+ Students

Aged 19 or over and thinking about further education?

You may be eligible for free or reduced course fees . Please refer to our page ‘paying for your course.’

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths or a higher level maths qualification we can help you do that too.
