This course will commence in September 2024 for a 36 week duration. It holds 3 days a week between Monday and Friday.

This course is for 16-18 year olds.

Course overview

This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to perform internal and external plastering tasks, using different plasters and renders used in domestic and commercial buildings on different background surfaces. You will also develop the attributes required for employment and the workplace to expand your career options.

Course content

The duration of the course covers the following units in technical knowledge understanding and practical training and development in the following areas:

Introduction to health and safety in construction
Preparing background surfaces and applying finishing coats
Producing components from moulds
Principles of building construction, information and communication
Apply plastering materials to interiors
Fix dry lining and plasterboards to interiors
Principles of organising, planning and pricing construction work
Running in-situ moulds

There will be assessment windows throughout the study programme where your knowledge and understanding will be assessed for a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade. You will be provided with a Synoptic practical skills test on the practical skills you have developed throughout your training. The knowledge exam will assess your understanding of the knowledge you have developed and will either be a paper-based or computer-based test. Achieving this Technical Certificate means that you have reached the standards expected by the industry.

Basic stationery for the classroom activities.

There are 5 points of PPE required in the workshop at all times. Each student is expected to provide their own safety boots and the department will provide the other 4 pieces:
Hi-Viz vest
Hard hat
Eye safety

Construction Centre
Honeywell Lane
S75 1BP

T Level in Plastering.
Apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery (successful employer support required to take this option).

How much does the course cost?

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.
