Students meet Educating Yorkshire star.

College students met Educating Yorkshire star, Musharaf Ashgar, as part of their Week of Culture.

Musharaf, well-known for his appearance on the Channel 4 show in 2013, was amongst the panel of guests welcomed into College as part of Week of Culture, aimed at developing students’ knowledge of other cultures and lifestyles.  Musharaf spoke to students about resilience and determination touching on topics from bullying to equality and diversity.

Organised by the Enterprise team, the Week of Culture saw several guest speakers and businesses from around the world deliver talks and workshops around days of art, music, people, and British values.

Other guests included Catherine Rannus, a musician with almost 20 years’ experience, who played the saxophone, piano and sang live across variety of genres including pop and jazz, to the students creating a real sense of occasion; Adam Smith, Founder and Co-Director of the visionary, multi-award-winning, global initiative, The Real Junk Food Project; and Elizabeth from Greece who joined the students virtually to take them on a tour of the Museum of Acropolis and tell them about the museum’s history.

Other activities included Nathan Parker’s spoken word poetry workshop; the Frontier Sapiens Film Festival; mandala painting with Artist and Polychrometrist, Raychel McGuin; and virtual tour of the Fashion Museum in New York.

Lee Perks, Enterprise Team Leader at College, said: “The Week of Culture is a College-wide drive to give our students a variety of opportunities and experiences of different cultures and lifestyles.

“We would like to thank all of our visitors who helped make the week so successful. I’m already looking forward to next year!”

Our Enterprise Team aims to bridge the gap between education and employment. The team encourages and supports students to develop their entrepreneurial skills and talents outside of their studies. The department offers opportunities for students to improve their communication, teamwork, problem solving and creativity skills and also provides support to those who are setting up a business.
