Catering student Alfie has raised £100 for The Exodus Project, a local children’s charity close to his heart, with a fundraiser lunch.

Alfie, a Level 2 Professional Cookery student and the Education and Apprenticeship Officer for the Student’s Union Executive Committee organised the event, held at The Open Kitchen, and brought together over 20 staff members for an engaging and enjoyable lunch in aid of The Exodus Project.

The fundraiser saw College staff treated to a delectable buffet generously provided by The Open Kitchen and a quiz masterfully designed by Alfie himself, with questions focusing on his personal interests, including Doctor Who, music, films and of course, food!

Entertainment was also provided by two talented Musical Theatre students who showcased their musical abilities, providing the audience with live music throughout the event. The performances added an entertaining touch to Alfie’s fundraising event.

Alfie expressed his happiness at the success of the event after it ended. He said: “I am extremely grateful that the event raised £100. I’ve wanted to raise money for The Exodus Project for a long time, to give something back to them, as I used to go to their clubs, and they provided me with amazing opportunities.

“With the help of the Student Union and my Catering course tutors, I was able to find a time over lunch where I could use The Open Kitchen to host the event and provide food and entertainment to over 20 staff members.”

The funds raised during the event will directly benefit The Exodus Project, a charity dedicated to working alongside children and young people in less advantaged communities to divert them from destructive lifestyle choices and provide opportunities for them to grow their skills and aspirations.

Sasha Foyster, Learner Voice Adviser within Student Services, assisted Alfie with getting staff to the event. She added: “Alfie has shown leadership, creativity and passion in organising this impactful event – it’s been great to see the result and that all his hard work organising the event has paid off.”
