Hair Professional (Hairdressing) Level 2 Apprenticeship

Start Date / Duration

You may start an Apprenticeship at any time. The minimum duration for this apprenticeship is 24 months.

Entry requirements

  • Two GCSEs grade 4/C including English and maths
  • NVQ Level 1 Hairdressing
  • You will need to find an employer to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our Apprenticeship vacancies.

Course content

The Diploma for Hair Professionals – Hairdressing covers all of the core knowledge and skills needed to become a competent hairdresser, providing opportunities to develop different skills from a selection of optional units.

The list below sets out how the credit has been assigned across the mandatory units. All units in this qualification are mandatory.

  • Consultation
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques
  • Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
  • Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
  • Optional units: perming hair or hair extension services

You will be assessed by your assessor by E-portfolio and workplace observation. Guided learner hours are delivered during contracted working hours.

You will need to purchase a Hairdressing  kit. Further information will be provided at induction.

 

You will study within the workplace and may have to attend classes at Barnsley College’s Old Mill Lane Campus, Church Street, Barnsley, S70 2YW.

On completion of this pathway, learners may progress onto further qualifications or into work.

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

Barnsley College has a range of sports opportunities for all students to take part in, gain professional training and compete nationally and internationally. We also have a state-of-the-art fitness village, Honeywell Sports Village where students can make use of our fitness suite, spinning studio and classes for competitive rates. You don’t have to be studying sport to get involved in the Sports Academy.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.

Need a higher level Maths qualification? We offer a Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths).

This can be added to your study programme.
