Please note: The HE Library has now re-located to the Library in the main Barnsley College building. The HE Library in the Church St campus is now closed to students. If you wish to return books and have a valid student card, you can return books to the Library desk or the book return box, which is on the ground floor of OML Library. If you do not have a valid student card, please leave books you are returning with reception in the main college building. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing new and returning students in the Library from September.

Barnsley College Higher Education Library and Computing Center has now re-located to The Library in the main Barnsley College campus and houses thousands of books, PCs, printers and more.

E-Resources

Barnsley College has lots of databases, e-books and e-journals to help with your studies. To log on you will need your College username and password. Some resources may ask you to choose Barnsley College from an A-Z list of institutions.

Discovery – is a one stop search engine for Barnsley College books, ebooks and many online journal collections.

Anatomy TV provides three-dimensional, interactive models of human anatomy.

Animal Science Database – trial Supporting research in animal production, welfare and health.

Annual Reviews is dedicated to synthesizing and integrating knowledge for the progress of science and the benefit of society.

Brown’s E-Books is a collection of academic textbooks from Barnsley College reading lists, available online.

Business Source Elite is a database that has access to full text articles on finance, management, and marketing.

Cambridge Companions ebooks on literature, music, philosophy and the humanities.

The Cochrane Library a collection of databases that contain different types of high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making.

Consumer Health Complete a health information resource designed to support patients information needs and foster an overall understanding of health issues.

Digital Theatre+ access to award-winning productions and a wealth of engaging educational materials.

Directory of Open Access Journals provides access to over 18,000 high quality, peer reviewed multidisciplinary ejournals offering freely available academic articles.

Ebook Central Ebooks covering a range of subjects including business, childcare, education, fine arts, health, IT, social work, sport and tourism.

Environment Complete offers deep coverage in the areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, and affiliated areas of study.

ERIC US Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) includes references to information on a broad range of education issues.

Issues Online Up-to-date articles, statistics, videos, e-books and links, from a variety of different sources: newspapers, charity groups, Government reports, blogs, magazines.

JSTOR a collection of academic journals, primary sources and books.

JISC Hairdressing Training step-by-step guidance videos, self-evaluation tests, worksheets and guides; the service is also mapped to the NVQ Hairdressing curriculum.

JISC Health and Social Care Training provides high quality, engaging and innovative digital learning resources for teachers and students, including interactive content.

NICE Clinical Knowledge Summaries provides information and guidance for a wide range of common conditions managed in primary care settings.

PE Matters Archive Official journal of the Association for Physical Education. Please email helibrary@barnsley.ac.uk for the username and password.

Psychology and Behavioural Science Collection provides extensive coverage of full-text articles from magazines and ejournals for psychology and behavioral sciences.

PubMed more than 24 million citations for biomedical and psychology literature from MEDLINE, life science ejournals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content

Rock’s Backpages the world’s largest archive of music journalism, featuring over 50,000 articles on artists from Aaliyah to ZZ Top, with a new edition every Friday.

SAGE Journals a colleciton of academic journals in the social sciences including education, health, media, sociology and much more.

Social Care Online database of information and research on all aspects of social care and social work provided by SCIE (Social Care Institute of Excellence).

SPORTDiscus covers sports and sports medicine ejournals and magazines.

Taylor and Francis Online articles covering the Social Sciences and Humanities eg music, media, education, health and social policy, sociology from ejournals.

VADS (Visual Arts Data Service) is a free online resource for the visual arts and includes over 100,000 images available and copyright cleared for use in learning, teaching and research in the UK.
