Student levels up with new job

Esports Education Coaching, Health and Wellbeing Foundation Degree student, Joshua Lee, has landed his dream job as an Esports Coach and Co-ordinator with Grassroots Sports Academy.

Joshua’s day-to-day activities range from planning and running events, coaching Esports teams, implementing training programs to improve player performance but his main role requires him to encourage participation across schools.

Since my second year of College, I was planning and running events for assignments and outside of studying I coached people on games, so I definitely have the experience Grassroots Sports Academy were searching for.

Joshua said: “I pursued the role I got as I believe that I’d be able to work most effectively in that role. Since my second year of College, I was planning and running events for assignments and outside of studying I coached people on games, so I definitely have the experience Grassroots Sports Academy were searching for.

“I enjoyed the events College allowed us to hold, it really helped me when finding what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go in my future careers. As for my work, I believe it will entail a similar pattern of problem solving and quick thinking when it comes to running events and allows me to use a wide knowledge base I got at College and from personal experiences in coaching.

“The course has helped me build my confidence when it comes to speaking with large groups of people as well as improving my overall skills when it comes to pitching ideas and planning. I’d like to thank the Esports staff for being incredibly supportive and always being available to talk to and provide assistance.”

You can study Esports in Barnsley up to Level 6 by progressing to a degree at Barnsley College University Centre which means that there is something on offer for those who are just starting their career as well as those who are looking to specialise.
