Four of our students have shown off their ability at a prestigious construction competition.

Thomas Cooze took the top prize in the carpentry section, with fellow Construction student George Robson in second place, at the SkillBuild regional qualifiers held at the College’s Construction Centre.

“I was really pleased to win the carpentry section and being involved in the competition was a valuable experience.”

Thomas and George took the top two places for displaying excellent technical skills, good time management, their approach to problem solving and ability to work under pressure.

Shaun Goddard and Alisha Smith continued the College’s success in the Level 1 Bricklaying round, in which they were respectively placed second and third.

Shaun and Alisha are studying our Level 1 Multi-trade course which gives students experience in different elements of construction.

Thomas said: “I was really pleased to win the carpentry section and being involved in the competition was a valuable experience. I didn’t think to much about winning while the competition was in progress, I just got on with it and I found it helpful that everyone was friendly.”

The SkillBuild competition is delivered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and is the largest and longest running multi-trade competition in the UK. It offers an opportunity for talented apprentices and students of all ages to compete regionally against one another in various trade categories.
