Computing: Cybersecurity Level 1 Award Part-time

This course is planned to start on Thursday 27 April 2023 and will run every Thursday for 10 weeks between 1.00pm and 4.15pm

Entry requirements

There is no requirement for you to have achieved any qualifications or units prior to undertaking this qualification. However, a reasonable standard of computing skills will be required.

Level 1 Award in Cybersecurity

Course overview

This free single unit qualification is designed for you to learn about cybercrime and you will understand routine protective methods used to maintain cybersecurity including the principles of vulnerability and penetration testing and user access control.

The qualification is also designed for job roles in other industries where specific digital skills are required, such as finance, marketing and machining and manufacturing.

Course content

The purpose of this qualification is for you to learn about cybercrime. You will study routine protective methods used to maintain cybersecurity including the principles of vulnerability and penetration testing and user access control. You will learn about cybercrime and the risks and effects it has on individuals and organisations.

Please note that this course can be studied either in our SciTech Digital Innovation Hub or in the Urban Classroom, Market Kitchen (Barnsley town centre).

You will be assessed using a range of methods such as practical tasks and written coursework that will culminate in a portfolio of evidence. This portfolio will be used to determine your grade.
