College isn’t just for school leavers……

Pawel Radzikowski

We caught up with Pawel Radzikowski, a current Level 3 Networking and Cyber Security, Level 2 Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and GCSE Maths student to hear about his journey as an adult learner and find out his words of advice to mature students.

Why did you choose to study at Barnsley College?

“I chose Barnsley College because it offers a supportive and welcoming environment for adult learners like myself. I was looking for a college that understands the unique challenges and strengths of mature students.

“Barnsley College has flexible course schedules, which is important for balancing my studies with work and family commitments. The College’s focus on lifelong learning and its diverse student body made me feel more at ease about returning to education after a significant break. Moreover, the opportunity to network with other adult students and professionals in my field of study was a significant factor in my decision.”

What do you most enjoy about your courses?

“What I enjoy most about my courses is the comprehensive and hands-on approach to learning. In the Networking and Cyber Security course, I’m gaining practical skills that are directly applicable to real-world scenarios, which is incredibly fulfilling. The course not only covers the technical aspects but also emphasizes the importance of security in the digital age, making the learning both relevant and timely.

“In the Introduction to A.I. course, I’m fascinated by the insights into how Artificial Intelligence is shaping our world. The course does an excellent job of breaking down complex concepts into understandable segments, making it accessible even for someone new to the field. The interactive and forward-thinking nature of the course keeps me engaged and excited about the possibilities of A.I.

“Lastly, the GCSE Maths course has been a great experience in revisiting and strengthening fundamental Math skills. The instructors have a way of making the material interesting and relevant. Overall, the blend of theory and practical application across all these courses, along with the knowledgeable and passionate instructors, makes my learning experience at Barnsley College extremely enjoyable and rewarding.”

Would you recommend the College to others?

“I would highly recommend Barnsley College for several reasons. First and foremost, the quality of education here is exceptional. The instructors are not only knowledgeable in their respective fields, but they are also genuinely invested in the success of their students. They provide a learning environment that is both challenging and supportive, ideal for students of all ages and backgrounds.

“The College offers a wide range of courses, including up-to-date and industry-relevant programs like Networking and Cyber Security, and Introduction to A.I. These courses are designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge that are highly valued in the job market.

“Another significant advantage of Barnsley College is its resources and facilities. The College boasts state-of-the-art equipment and technology, which enhances the learning experience and ensures students are learning with tools and software they will encounter in their future careers.

“For adult students like myself, the flexible study options, including part-time and distance learning, are a huge benefit. It allows students to balance their education with other commitments, making it more accessible to a wider range of people.

“Furthermore, the College’s inclusive and diverse community creates a welcoming environment for all students. The support services available, such as career advice, counselling, and academic support, are invaluable resources that aid in both academic and personal development.

“Lastly, the strong connections Barnsley College has with local businesses and industries provide students with networking opportunities and a pathway to employment and internships, which is crucial for career advancement.”

What advice would you give to those thinking of studying at Barnsley College?

“If you’re thinking about studying here, it’s a good idea to start by checking out the different courses they offer. Make sure they have what interests you and can help you in your future plans.

“Don’t forget to look into the kind of support they offer, like career advice and help with your studies. If you’ve got a busy life with work or family, it’s important to see if the college has flexible class times or online options. Also, look into any financial support that might be available to help with costs.

“If you’re not living near the College, think about how you’ll travel there every day and make sure it works for you. If you’re returning to study after a break, prepare for the change in routine and lifestyle. Taking the time to think about all these things will help you make the best decision for yourself.”
