Potential new students will have the opportunity to find out about the wide range of courses on offer at the Barnsley College and Barnsley Sixth Form College Virtual Open Event on Tuesday 19 October, from 4.00pm to 7.00pm.

Rated outstanding by Ofsted, Barnsley College and Barnsley Sixth Form College offer education for everyone; including full and part-time vocational courses, A Levels, T Levels (Technical qualifications) and apprenticeships in a wide range of subjects.

“Our friendly, professional and experienced staff are here to support you to make the right decision which will allow you to take your first steps towards securing your dream career.”

The College offers a range of vocational courses in subject areas from Business to Bricklaying; Hairdressing to Healthcare; and Catering and Hospitality to Computing and Digital Media.

The Sixth Form College also has a variety of A Level courses available including Art and Design, Geography, Law and Spanish. The Sixth Form College has an excellent reputation for success and many of our students progress onto further study at some of the country’s top universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Lancaster, Manchester, Sheffield and York.

For those who prefer a more hands-on approach to learning, then an apprenticeship could be the perfect choice. Apprenticeships allow students to earn a wage whilst gaining industry-specific knowledge and skills by working alongside experienced members of staff within their chosen sector. We offer over 75 apprenticeship programmes from Level 2 to 6 in industries such as Beauty Therapy, Leadership and Management, Sport, Childcare and Education Professions and Warehousing and Logistics.

T Levels allow students to gain on-the-job experience whilst gaining qualifications equivalent to three A Levels. Studied 80% in the classroom and 20% in the workplace, students learn common workplace skills and the technical knowledge specific to their chosen industry or occupation. T Level courses are available to study in Childcare and Teacher Training; Construction; Digital; and Health and Social Care. From September 2022, we hope to offer two more T Level courses in Finance and Accounting and Engineering and Manufacturing.

This virtual event will allow prospective students to attend online information sessions from the comfort of their own home, where they can chat to tutors and find out more about a specific course, career or future job markets and our connections with leading employers. They can also talk to Student Services about student finance, the Health and Wellbeing Centre, Job Shop and travelling to and from College campuses, including free coach services from a number of local areas. The Information, Advice and Guidance team will also be available to discuss options for those who may not know what is the best course for them.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the fantastic facilities with campus tours and examples of students’ work in the virtual music chill out lounge.

The event will also provide the opportunity find out more about the support services available at the College including the Students’ Union, the Sports Academy and Additional Learning Support.

Following the open event, prospective students will be able to apply to study with us and then from early November, they will be invited in to College to see our fantastic facilities and meet our staff.

Yiannis Koursis, Principal and Chief Executive Officer at the College, said: “We are pleased to be able to offer future students and their families and carers the opportunity to find out about studying with us at this virtual event.

“We know choosing the right college and the right course is an important decision. At Barnsley College, our friendly, professional and experienced staff are here to support you to make the right decision which will allow you to take your first steps towards securing your dream career.
