ABC Awards Level 1 and 2 Award in Practical Animal Care Skills
If you have a passion for animals, their safe treatment and care, then Wigfield Farm could be the place for you.
For lovers of the great outdoors, our 55-acre working farm provides hands-on practical work, allowing you to get up close to the animals. It is an exciting and interesting place to study and gain a Barnsley College certificate.
The farm has an extensive range of animals including domestic mammals, reptiles, exotics, birds, poultry, fish, aquatics and a wide range of agricultural animals.
You will have the opportunity to study animal husbandry including animal health checks, designing and building enclosures, grooming and handling, and gain experience during the lambing season.
As part of the course, you will build a portfolio of evidence in a range of subjects including: Animal Health, Animal Handling, and Animal Housing. These units include practical work which helps you to relate classroom learning to a real work environment.
On completion of your Barnsley College certificate, we will welcome your application to study with us further.
