Animal Care (Skills Academy)

ABC Awards Level 1 & 2 Award in Practical Animal Care Skills

Students will study at Wigfield Farm – one of Barnsley College’s campuses. The 55 acre working farm provides hands on practical work for all students, allowing them to get up close to the animals.

The farm has an extensive range of animals including domestic mammals, reptiles, exotics, birds, poultry, fish, aquatics and a wide range of agricultural animals.

Students will have the opportunity to study animal husbandry including animal health checks, design and build enclosures, grooming and handling and experience during the lambing season.

As part of the course, students will build a portfolio of evidence in a range of subjects including: Animal Health, Animal Handling, and Animal Housing. All of these units include practical work which allow students to relate classroom learning to a real work environment.
